This is my first official post here...

My wife and I just got back from our honeymoon in Las Vegas. While we were there, we rented a car and drove some 1,000 miles to the Hoover Dam, Red Rock, Grand Canyon (North Rim), Antelope Canyon and Valley of Fire. It was a heck of a trip.

We found out about halfway through, that my wife's Canon 5D wouldn't focus to infinity (didn't matter what lens, aperture, etc.). She was bummed so I handed my 5D over to her and went about shooting almost exclusively with my G10. I never appreciated a camera so much as I do the G10 right now. It really held up well in the desert and made for some beautiful imagery. Sure, the pixels aren't as smooth as those from my 5D at base ISO, but I'm just glad I had the G10 to get me what I got.

I also shot about 10 rolls of film with a Contax TVS, Horizon 202 and Fuji Klasse. Those are all at Dwayne's in Parsons, KS so I'll post some of those when they get back...

Enjoy the photos! And, as always, C&C is greatly appreciated. All files were shot RAW and processed in LR3. Looks like there's some pixelation from downsizing them for the web, but they look great at 100%.

Matthew, you promised you'd post - and you did! Although I feel very badly for your wife's bad luck, you certainly did really well with your G10 - I know that Don/Streetshooter still loves his, too. My favorites are the Slots one - so telling, and then "Desert Highway" - love the deep saturated look and the wide view of that country and the two lane highway!

Matt, Welcome aboard... Nice photos....I have to admit, I had the G10 for a spell but didn't like it as much as my trusted G9. I still have the G9, war torn etc.

Matthew, excellent, lovely imagery! I adore the desert and you capture it well.
Wanna see you film results!

It's so funny that you say that because my wife loves her G11 more than my G10, I love the G10 more than I loved the G11 that I had, You love the G9 more than the G10, some people swear by the G12 now and then you have others still clinging to their G5 as if it were a solid gold brick handed down from a Greek God. It's always interesting to me the amount of diversity between photographers in regards to just one line of cameras, much less various brands, mounts, sensors, etc.

Love it! Keep shooting with that G9!!!

Great post Matthew. I don't own any of the Canon G's, but have always been enamored with them, especially the G10 due to its high resolution. I recall Luminous Landscapes really raving about it. The G10 and Pany LX3 were the two cameras I was seriously considering when I began my journey into the "serious compact" world. I ended up getting a Pany TZ5 and then getting an Oly E410 a month or two later.
