Street Street photography (Image thread)

The Nex does not seem to be getting in your way AT ALL Don...

I chased these back to your Flickr stream and there's one out a bus window behind a kid's head. My goodness, what a photograph....

Not even a little bit in the way.

Javier, you do quite a job of documenting what a wacky place LA is. I could no more LIVE there than on mars, but I"m gonna make it back out there for a visit someday and see if I can grab some of those fine shots around the beach communities. I haven't spent any serious time there in about 30 years and it was crazy then...

Javier, that first one is destined to be a classic. I think some could really go to town with that one and your medical marijuana one from the other day. What can I say, I'm with Ray about the "Mars" thing and the wackiness of the part of LA you usually shoot. Your photos give us a real view into that microcosm out there!

Don, two beauties... I didn't see them last night when I last checked in on Flickr. The softness enveloping the young man sitting on the heating grate is perfect...those socks and his hat sitting off to either side, his head turned. Beautiful. And I'm with olli on your second. Strong stuff, my friend.

Peter, I don't think I knew you were taking a class...but maybe I did and my brain is too full? I laughed as out loud when I saw that one of the dog and his tongue!!

Yeah, it is called "Creative Skills" and I am learning how to take crappier photos in the name of art. Stuff like deliberately out of focus stuff and the like that I use to throw away before.

;)
 Well, maybe it will do something positive... If anything it will show you what you do know. I do like that dog tongue photo, though....and bet you could enhance it a bit, if you wanted to...maybe a strong vignette to zero in on his appendage? I am serious but I hear you about the whole out of focus thing, too. However, if this teacher is good they may be trying to free everyone up. I remember a figure drawing class I took once...our teacher made us draw with whichever hand we didn't normally use - for me, my left. We also were not allowed to take our pencil from the page... It did get me to think about things differently and actually did help me.

Ray, thanks for posting your two. I am one of the enthusiastic supporters of your dog shot, as you know. Both of these have an intense feeling - especially that market scene! For me there's almost an Outer Limits alternate reality feel and it's not just the Amish looking farmer. I do like the juxtaposition and the kind of glow.

At least you know the law well, James, so you can explain yourself. Perhaps a business card is in order?;)

I am also very fond of the previous photograph of the young woman with her hair in a ponytail. The fact that you kept the background out of focus is key, I think. I like the blotchy oof areas - especially the highlights - and those stripes are as a counterpoint to the dark perpendiculars are very nice, as well.

Hmm Portiga...sounds a bit like Portugal...however I believe it is the Agfa photography paper of yore... "Those were the good old days..." I have some on that paper, myself, if memory serves me.

Well, I didn't really have any business photographing people in the street... I don't know what I would put on my card. Maybe: "WHAT'S THAT BEHIND YOU??" and while he's looking, I could make my getaway.

I wish I looked to see what she looked like from the front.
