Square format images

Yes, it's a cell phone picture but I have really fallen for this square format - and it's awfully handy.

This is not what I meant. I have had hits of every Latin name I searched an English translation for, but although I took photographs of all signs around the flowers I took photographs of, all pictures I found looked completely different to the flowers of my photographs.

My friend who is a master gardener looked at your picture, Christian and thinks it could be a trillium. She says the leaves are not yet unfurled completely. She added that she couldn't get any idea of how large it was, but said that trilliums can get up to 12 inches tall.

BB, thanks for your information, but I think it is very hard to find the correct plant by seeing only that photograph. Maybe your friend should have known more details. The flower is on a bush and the size of the bush is about 20 inches. The petals are rather round than longish and the flower itself had a diameter of about 1.2 to 1.5 inches. The flower had been decayed when I visited the plant the second time (four days later), but I will take a photograph of the bush the next time, if that helps.

Were there three petals on the flowers. That is where the plant derives its name. I don't think we have found the right one yet based on what all the trilliums I looked at on the net look like.

Were there three petals on the flowers.

My pictures show six petals and that number matches what I can remember. I am quite sure that there were more than three petals. I also think that we don't know the name of this flower yet.

Following some private messages from BB, I've consulted a botanist friend of mine (botany is a weak link for me), and this is her response :-

"Interesting conundrum. Glacier Crowfoot (Ranunculus glacialis)? Mountain habitats, bare rocky places e.g. mountains of France & Germany, Scandinavia,. according to my book. Flowers white, becoming pink (photo shows some pink streaking).

I’m not sure at all, because I don’t know it and because it’s difficult to judge sizes from the photo and detailed features (e.g. sepals should have purple-brown hairs).
If I have any other brainwaves, I’ll let you know."

Don't know if that helps at all?

The square format frees the mind when shooting and is profound to view. Likewise, I like to shoot in B/W.
