Let me start by thanking those members that decided to do any or all of the Image Quest. Thanks... now lets get to work...

We are going to concentrate our efforts on the image side of photography and not the gear. So, the rule is that there isn't any rule. You may use any camera, lens or combination that you like.
It can be DSLR, Compact, Film...whatever. The important thing will be the images that you produce, not what produced the images.

There are elements to photographs that are very intricate to the success of the image. These elements come into play both at the moment of capture and at the moment of viewing.
What you do at either point effects the other. It's the inverse square law that we photographers have to deal with.

Here's what I mean. If your viewing a photograph, your eye should be guided through the visual experience by the shooter. The shooter uses visual tools to construct the photograph and make the image. The viewer is guided through the viewing by the shooters use of tools.

There are many tools available and not all get used at the same time. It's the combination of these tools that make the image interesting. It is also the selection and use of these tools that gives the photographer a certain style.

We will break down the tools to 2 areas.
1. Capture Tools.
2. Presentation Tools.

Capture tools combine GEAR along with VISION. As I stated before, the gear is your choice. I promise you this. If you do the IQ with the intent of really getting the message and learning the concepts, you will never have a lust for unnecessary gear again. You will find that a certain camera or a few maybe, do things that others don't. You may have overlooked the importance of the camera/lens as it pertains to vision and not to acquisition. More on this later.

Presentation Tools include, software, plug-ins, frames. There are esthetic decisions with the tools at this point such as Color versus B&W, Image Size etc.

First off, we will work on Capture Tools. The tools are not the camera, it's not the FOV, it's not the DOF.... it's what goes on in your mind as you make the image.

Hopefully, there will be a few of youse interested in doing this. Please, do not be discouraged or embarrassed about your writing, images or progress.
Please post any thoughts or questions on the thread.
There will be a gallery set up for each Image Quest. Please post your results there and also you can post an image on the thread if you want to discuss it.

The images for each IQ must be made during the time period for the quest. There is no point in posting images you made before the start of the quest. That would make your intent questionable.

Feel free to work on any IQ at anytime even after it has timed out. You can catch up this way and new members can get a fresh start.

The first tool we will work with is called....

Juxtaposition.

**New updated time extension! You have another week to quest! Don has asked me to update this IQ and let everyone know also that there are no limitations in any way to this quest, except that you make the photographs during this time period. You are welcome to add 7 photographs to the IQ gallery, or if your time is limited...and you can only add one photograph, that is OK, as well.

I will post a few examples of Juxtaposition.

Here we see the relationship between the sign and the woman. There are other things going on but you should clearly be able to see the juxtaposition.

This shows a similar approach. This would work in a series as there is a relationship in the images and also connected to each other.

and still another form of juxtaposing... reality is challenged and yet her fingers....

I would like each member to post around 5 images that you made with the INTENT of JUXTAPOSITION. Spend time thinking about what this means to you and apply those thoughts to the image. Don't just snap off 5 frames in 21 seconds and think you will fool anyone.... you can't fool your self.
Use the tool as you see fit. Please use your interpretation of the word.
We will run the IQ for around 2 weeks. I will monitor the thread and if it starts to sleep, I'll start the next IQ. If the thread is active, we'll let it run longer.
You can post more than 5 images but shoot for at least 5.

The new gallery lives here....

You can find it in the Members Gallery area...

I want to post a submission, read the FAQ but can't figure out how to post to the gallery...I went to attachments and up loaded the image (4.4 meg) and there's a little orange exclamation mark that I assume might mean the file is too large? AAARGGG..

Anyone...Bueller, Bueller...

thx in advance...:(

What is the maximum picture size I can upload?
Uploaded images must be 1500px in greatest dimension. For best displayed image quality, I recommend a max dimension of 1024px for the uploaded image.

There are lots of tools available for resizing images. My personal method is to upload them full size to Flickr. Flickr resizes them automatically to a variety of sizes (and unlike many online service does so while preserving image quality and sharpness). I take the "Large" size from Flickr, which is 1024px in max dimension, and upload that to the Mu-43 gallery.

I export to my desktop from Lightroom and upload, BruPri. Have you tried that size?

Well...I exported "for email" that worked and I posted it to the Juxtaposition gallery...I'll have to figure out how to make it show up here...
thanks again and my apologies to all having to bear witness to my personal display of technical incompetence. It shall be followed shortly by a public display of skill and cunning as I again WILL master the upload and succeed in posting!

Not quite sure this is what you're talking about, but saw it this morning and thought it might do.

Kathy, It's not what I expect from your images, it's what you should expect. I'm just trying to provide some tools to help you sort thru things and find good images before exposure and then, find the good ones in your catalog.
So, on that point.....what do you see at the juxtaposition and what meaning do YOU get from it?

BB, I'm no ones boss. I make suggestions not orders.
Whatever anyone does is what they do.
I would think 5 good images would be culled from 20-30. In the future that number would be ...
5 good images from 15.
Get it!?
