Hello from England

Hi All,

Just joined after recognising a few names on here and liking the look of the site. I'm from a small town called Corby in Northamptonshire. Corby was once nicknamed "little Scotland" because a high percentage of its population were Scottish folks who moved down to work in the Steel Mill here.

I've been interested in Photography since my teens but was never serious about it until I bought my first DSLR off Ebay - a Canon 350D. From that I moved on to a Canon 5D.

On a holiday trip to Aberdeen I was involved in a minor car accident which left me without a car for 2 days. So instead of taking in the sights of Scotland I hopped on a bus to the City Centre and started taking my first street shots. Thus my passion for street photography began and this has led me to explore smaller cameras. Beginning with the Panasonic G1 which I loved and now I've switched to the Panasonic GH2 and the LX5.

Got to admit I'm jealous of you guys who have the Fuji X100 but I think I'll resist that temptation for now and try and concentrate on taking pictures!

Norman, thanks so much for taking the time to stop in here and for making yourself at home here on SC. While I'm very sorry about that car accident, minor as it was, it is pretty cool that you turned your pedestrian ways into an opportunity and became hooked on street photography.(y)

I'll be heading over to your Flickr stream soon and look forward to seeing your pictures there as well as here!

Hi There Norman - I think we've met before at dpreview?
I'm from Suffolk, but I do spend time in Aberdeen - I succumbed to the X100 . . . . but only for a few days - 600 photos persuaded me that it wasn't for me. The Pentax K5 is as compact as I get these days.

Welcome!

G'day Norman from a part of Australia who's weather and terrain is often considered quite like your part of the world - the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales.

Nice line up of cameras you have there. Your resistance to the lure of the x100 is commendable. However your resolve will be tested here. But then again, I believe it was the philosopher Abelard who said "It is nobler to resist than avoid temptation". So bully to you on coming to the place where you will be most tempted......having said that I have found it the place where you are least likely to be judged!

You changed your mind about the X100 again?

Hi. Seems strange to be greeting someone when I've just come through the door myself, but then as we're almost neighbors it'd seem rude not to. What can I say, I hope you find this place as welcoming as I have.
I don't think I've ever been to Corby, except maybe passing through a couple of time to Oundle, where the in-laws used to live. Northamptonshire has it's jewels, which often seem to be overlooked. I know there's some lovely rolling countryside near you, I know because I've cycled through most of it.
