Wow is all I can say John, nice being at the right time and the right angle moment. You are cheating a bit however by using a regular DSLR. You are making the rest of us look bad.

Lili, you are off to a great start.

PDH, I assume you are using a zoom on that shot.

Thanks for the complement Dave. However, not trying to "cheat" or make anyone look bad as I am truly an amateur and I usually have enough on my hands just making myself look bad. The Canon T3i/600D is a small DSLR for sure and certainly falls in the same category as the Pentax K-5, and Sony A33/55. It is a very versatile camera and with the articulating screen is very adaptive to street photography as well. One of these days, I plan on a short review, but there are plenty of real professional reviews online already. :)

no offense

Amazing coloring, nice shot.
Evne in the animal kingdom, guys will do what ever it takes to get the girl.

So true! This is what he did when a female strutted by:

He also did a little dance, but the female did not seem to pay any attention. It was really cool to watch, though.

some more from my morning walk

I knew from last week that a pair of Whitethroats were feeding young in a nest along my local lane, then I only had my 105mm Sigma lens with me, so today I set out with the 100-300mm Panasonic lens with the object of capturing them, here are the results. I think the young have fledged and were distributed in the hedge. In the first shot the bird is alarm calling, hence the ruffled throat feathers.

I came across a singing male Sedge Warbler, much to my surprise, but despite being very close to me at times I only caught fleeting views of it and it eluded my camera.

I was almost home and had resisted turning the camera off when I disturbed my local buzzard and managed this not very good grab shot.

Nice to see the whitethroats ... I found a little colony of them at the bottom of the hill recently, in a slightly scrubby public area and they were posing nicely for me, except for the stream of people with dogs who kept on asking whether I was taking any nice photographs ... bless 'em ... went back the next day, only to find the entire area had been close-mown, so all the long grasses and wildflowers and yorkshire fog had gone, and with it all the cover for the birds, along with the food for the insects and larvae on which the birds feed ... and then people wonder why we have fewer birds and butterlfies ...

So typical of how we treat our environment, unthinking and ignorant. These guys are in a hedgerow along what is now a green lane, was a royal road 1000 years ago linking 2 royal estates. As you can see the hedges get the flail treatment, but thankfully not at this time of the year.

A couple of little brown jobs

I did manage some bird shots today, not very good really, but small and somewhat reluctant subjects (well that's my excuse anyway).

Panasonic G1 with 100-300mm Panasonic lens (noticed after the event that I did not have the stabilisation switched on, opps), not cropped, post processed in Bibble Pro 5

Chiffchaff. I see the ringers have been at work, this one has a shiny new ring on its right leg.
