Fuji Fuji X10 Sample Images

In PASM, M size, auto DR, auto ISO 1600, are you sure the X10 will choose (whenever necessary) to do EXR SN? I haven't been able to trigger the utilization of EXR SN without using it through the actual EXR mode dial. Or at least when I shoot in PASM with the settings noted above, the PASM photo is not able to match the EXR SN in low noise. So my assumption is that my PASM photo didn't use EXR SN, otherwise it should have been the same quality noise-wise.

They were ending up VERY VERY similar looking. A bit more noise in the manual shots, but not objectionable. And I think that might be due to my settings - I tend to keep the NR turned down pretty low to get more detail and figure I can always apply more in PP if I want to. I suspect that in EXR-SN mode, the camera over-rides your settings and probably applies more NR to the shot. That's the only explanation I can come up with because the camera was choosing essentially identical ISO and DR settings in both cases. The only other thing it MIGHT be doing is essentially exposing more to the right and then tamping the exposure back down in processing to get less noise? Which I could do as well, but I haven't experimented with that yet. In any case, they were coming out close enough that I'll probably just go forward with it like that until and unless it starts to matter. And for really really really low light shots, with static subjects, I can always flip over to the Pro-Low Light mode. I don't see doing that much in the flow of shooting, but if I"m taking a good hard look at something, I might...

pepeye, many thanks for this wonderful array of X10 photographs and welcome to Serious Compacts! First let me say that you are adding to my iPad Snapseed envy and secondly I'll add that these images look very good. If I had to choose a favorite it would probably be one of your Volkswagon shots since a VW Bug was the car I learned on and loved.

So how do you find the X10?

And when you have a chance, it would be great if you'd stop by over in our Welcomes and Introductions forum to say hello.

Thank you. And Snapseed is simply brilliant. Lightroom is getting kinda lonely on my PC.

I've only had the X10 a few days and this was my first outing with it. But its the real deal, I can tell you that. Great glass. Fast to focus and shoot. The Fuji film simulations are beautiful. The jpg's seem to have a lot of headroom for tweaking in post without falling apart. So far so good.

And I learned on a bug too, so I hear you.

I have a confession to make. I've actually just made it over here. I, too, am now the proud owner of the X10, as well, and I agree with you 100%. Glad to hear we have VWs and Fujis in common, pepeye!

Here are a my first few X10 photos: Fuji X10 I'll put up two here, as well - wide and zoomed.

I'm not forsaking its bigger and older sibling - the X100 but fell under the spell of the wider and somewhat smaller X10.

Aww, thanks pepeye! That was zoomed out and I added some Color Efex Pro Glamour Glow. I am impressed at its zoom, though mostly I prefer wide...it's really nice to know how well the longer length works. Again, many thanks.

Knew you'd make the jump, BB. You weren't asking all those questions for nothing. And it looks like you put that info to good use. Love the above, great doggie detail! My X10 is arriving Monday or Tuesday. Can't wait.
