Leica Leica X1 Image Thread

Leica X1 versus….. . This is not a camera comparison, but rather an attempt to find out for myself what results I would walk away with, if I had any of the two cameras with me and took some spontaneous shots. So it's about the absolute output I would get from the two based on the way I use them and with a quick and dirty PP and cropping etc only, no jumping through PP loops, no tripods, no comparable parameters, not trying to level the playing field for the tools. Shots are handheld, slow shutter speeds, cropped, both cameras have fixed moderatly wide angle lenses with closest focusing distance of 30cm.

So what's your conclusion?;)

To my eyes, I think the Foveon sensor brings out much more depth, detail and color. It might be interesting do try it with absolutely no post processing and not even bothering with cropping - just making the photograph they way you'd want it framed right out of the camera. Also - were these RAW/DNG or jpegs?

These were raw. But I did not say one was a foveon;) However, color, color accuracy, 3d look of the Sigma DP1 looks better in these. Of course, if one tried to get more look alike files, it might be possible. But I tried to simulate a real live situation, me spotting something I wanted to capture casually, setting the camera such that is was possible handheld, (i.e. the DP1 was f4 and iso 200, the X1 f2.8 and iso 100), click and walk away.

The real Waikiki Beach ..yes it is that bad. A downmarket town with upscale shops to fleece the Japanese.
We stayed 2 nights to see Pearl Harbour and catch our cruise and that was more than enough.

Nice to see some new photos on this thread! That X1 is sure a nice tool. Great looking too. Hopefully the X2 will have an EVF or OVF. Keep the photos coming X1 owners!

I like the top one of these two. Still zone focus? I read somewhere that Leica recommend setting for 6ft at f5.6. It really rather relies on having good lighting though I think.

The last 4 were taken in AF mode. Unless shooting moving subjects or doing street in busy places, I think the X1's AF is fast enough.

Yes, the prices are coming down and it tempted me to play with a used one here at a store in town. One thing that surprised me was the write time between shots. Is this still the nature of the beast?
