Fuji Fuji iXS-1 Announced

True, a tilting EVF is a big plus for many reasons.

It's interesting to read how many of us here use are left eye dominant... I'm right handed and have always been told that it's unusual to be a righty and use my left eye but it's always been that way.

Nobody ever told me it was unusual but its something I've observed when out and about. Its particularly interesting for me because my left eye is actually the weaker of the two in long sight. I have tried to switch to right, but cannot. I hardly ever see others using left eye.

Oddly, Fuji seems to have a strategy here. Street camera (X100), compact (x10), and now bridge (XS-1). They seem to be going after those who want a good camera but don't want to tote around (or spend extra money on) extra lenses. I thought the X100 was a silly idea and it's obviously sold well enough. At first I thought the X10 was silly and I just ordered one . I'll wait to see what happens with the bridge camera. The price doesn't surprise me but it does seem on the big side at 2 lbs.

So was the S100fs. People criticized the heck out of it. Then they started missing it. Today, it has a cult followship. So the X-S1 is the successor of the S100fs. Note the similar name, the similar size, weight and sensor diameter. This is the camera for those remaining premium bridge enthusiasts who didn't jump ship to a MFT or APS-C MILC. It probably won't sell in huge numbers. But me, I'll definitely get one.

Personally, as a Panasonic fz3 user, I'd prefer a 12x f2.8 Fuji exr zoom camera, if anyone with the power to make it happen is listening. Most of these IMHO sacrifice long tele for slow lenses.

Yeah I'm expecting between 700 and 800 Australian. More than that and it's just too much I think.

Stupid companies asking over 1,000 for something not yet released? Insane.

They are still over $900 for the X10 from some hong kong sellers on eBay when you can get them local for $700

I'm very interested in this new one. I am a fan of
Superzooms and will prob get this one if the price isn't rediculois.

I think the companies know exactly what they are doing when they 'rumour' outrageous prices before a camera is even available,.
Its happened with the X100 and the X10 now look at the prices..now and how the X100 which has dropped in price in the few months its been available.
Its a 'con' to get everybody 'worked' up about the price then breath a great sigh of relief when the final price is released.
So wait and see on this one.
I have personally always been drawn to the 'bridge' idea but do find them rather large and they are getting heavier again especially when I have been using much lighter cameras, I couldn't use anything heavier than the combined weight than my NEX 5 with its kit lens.

Then again, a NEX 5N with attached EVF and lenses covering 24-624mm focal length equivalent will be quite heavy. And really expensive. Of course, being APS-C, it will deliver great results.

I've just now done a side by side on dpreview.com and am gobsmacked at the size of this monster. I was going to get one, but have changed my mind. Its bigger than my K-5, and not very much lighter than when I have a big zoom attached. I'm afraid the advantages of having an all in one, for me are well outweighed by its sheer immensity. Those of us with arthritic wrists are better off staying well away from it. What a shame. Might go back and look at the HS20 again.

This camera has my interest up. The long zoom would be a real plus for photographing our son on stage during plays and concerts. Hmmm.
I tweeted the Fuji Guys last night with a question. 'Wonder if you folks have some thoughts here. With f2.8 available at 24mm, (35mm equiv.), I wonder when the maximum aperture starts getting significantly smaller acknowledging the optical zoom goes to 624mm with the max. aperture then at f5.6, (again 35mm equiv.). For example, gotta' wonder what the max. aperture is at around 85mm.
'Just wondering. If/when I hear back from the Fuji Guys I'll post the response.
. . . David

I've become interested again, in spite of the weight. But, I'm going to wait and see what the VF is like (will it be pokey and small, or big and bright) and what the IQ is like at the long end. Also, nobody in Aus is offering it up yet.

There are too many cameras, and not enough money!
