Leica Showcase Leica M Image Thread

Deirdre, I'm glad you're making your way through your Hawaii photos and thanks for giving the background info, too. I enjoy that sort of stuff. Beautiful sunrise!

usayit, thanks so much for these! My two favorites are the third and sixth - both have something extra special about them to me - though of course your son is incredibly cute, and I love his expression.

Thanks BillN and BBW

Local shop contacted me that an M9 was now available.. oh and that 50mm Summilux Asph was also finally available too... "dang.. why at the same time?"

What happens?

I'm frantically selling stuff like a mad man... Canon EOS system gone, Medium format stuff gone, Epson R-D1 gone, a few collectables gone, motorcycle gone.. I promised myself that I'd only fund my purchase with the proceeds from selling stuff.

Here's the thing... I'm just a little short and I've run out of stuff to sell.... I've already placed the 50mm Summarit on the block and now I'm painfully looking at lenses that I still use. Heck... even the Noctilux... I know that if I sell it I'm finished but with the way things are going, I would have no chance of affording to buy it back in the near future. Prices have doubled/tripled and available income down. What do I do? YES! I know... go out and shoot.. think more another day.

Ok.. I won't mention the M9...

How about a few from my M8....

Noctilux f/1 stopped down to f/8 (yes.. it does stop down) "Spring Point Light in Maine"

Noctilux F/1 @ f/1 with 3 stop ND filter underexposed then brought out in post. "Portland Head light" Maine

Anyways, still happy no regrets... as long as I'm shooting.

Oh yes.. my wife thinks I'm nuts... but she's ok since I'm pretty thrifty with everything else.

Wonderful images usayit

- I wish that you would stop posting all that stuff with the lens information
- I am on an economy drive and just cannot spend anymore money on camera stuff (although I would like a Cron 35/2 - the pre ASPH will do)

and please don't mention the M9

Cheers

These are with a $60 Jupiter-3, needed to be cleaned, lubed, and adjusted. My Favorite FSU lens.

At F1.5 on the M8:

Nice shots everyone, Keep'm coming.

I've got to make it over to Hawaii someday. That's a sight to behold

Brian's last one has that "dreamy" look I like to see...

Agreed, don't stop!

Deirdre, how are you coming along with your Hawaii photos? I need to check your Flickr stream to see what's been going on. I do find your Kilauae image to be one I keep coming back to. Have you had a chance to print it? The sense of three dimension feels very strong to me - and that moon peering through the steamy clouds is extra special!

OK, great and thank you! Regarding Flickr breaking the URLs...do you mean if you rework and and republish via Lightroom? If so, yes, that is annoying and it's something I often forget about.

P.S. Wow! I've just started to look into your Mobileme...and will have to book mark it. Maybe you'll consider adding it to your signature line for a while? Now I'm going off to the volcano!:D

It is going to take me some time to get used to the M8 - it likes "good light"
My "higher" ISO shots are disappointing - anything over ISO 320 takes skill (and M8 experience) which I am "saving up for"
- ISO 160 is good

(I'm told that ISO 640 is ISO 800 on other cams - no idea why - another Leica quirk!)
(you do not have much choice with the M8 as the ISO settings are 160, 320, 640, 1250, 2500 and Auto - apparently 1250 and 2500 are unusable and not for mere mortals)

The following was taken at ISO 640 @1/8 sec @ f8.0 - hand held of course, it's a Leica

I've cropped, (as usual), and PPeeeeed to "jazz up the colour" - a contrast with the shot above, (of the head)
I'm still experimenting - but have not had much chance to get out much for the last few weeks - "laid up" a little to say the least - "old age"

Oh, 1250's useful, just expect noise. That said, what else are you going to use on a shot like this if the fastest lens you have with you that's suitable is f/1.9? This one's straight out of camera complete with stuck pixel and vertical line resulting from same. (At lower ISOs, that artifact isn't there.)

I think the M8's files are perfectly usable at ISO 640.

At ISO 1250, you start having to be careful on how you expose but I still use it quite often with a touch of noise ninja to control noise.

@ BIllN, For 1/8th of second handheld... that's nice a crisp.

@ diedre, My M8 had a vertical line issue which was fixed by Leica, NJ (I work nearby). Camera was still under warranty but I hear Leica is pretty generous with repairs.
