Pocket-Sized Compact, Low-Light, Low-Lag.

What kind of pants youse wearing, spandex?
I carry the camera all the time in my jeans, dress pants and it fits easy.
I don't get this part of the conversation...

Having owned an S90 and now an LX5, I actually DO get this part of the conversation. I can get the LX5 in my pants pocket and its an easy carry in a coat pocket, but its sort of bulky - when its in my pants pocket, it feels kind of bulky, kind of uncomfortable. In short, I dislike enough to only carry it that way in a pinch. The S90 (and I believe the S95 is even slightly narrower) is small enough that I could actually carry it in a pocket and not notice it after a while. I never hesitated to carry it that way. I used to slip it in my jersey pocket for long bike rides and forget it was there. The added weight and bulk of the LX-5 makes THAT pretty unpleasant too, so I rigged up a tiny little handlebar case for riding with the LX5 (which is actually a good bit handier as well). Of course, on bike rides, I AM wearing spandex (or lycra, if there's a difference), but the jersey is plain old wool or some sort of non-stretch miracle fabric with decent sized rear pockets.

As you know, I much prefer the LX-5 in almost every respect and I sold my S90 after I got it. But the S90/95 IS a good deal more easily pocketable, in my experience.

Ray, I am really interested in your handlebar case for the LX 5. I have been looking for a solution for a mountain bike, dust and shock protection... Any suggestions would be appreciated. I now carry it in a backpack, not readily accessible. Thanks.

I'm 99% on-road these days, so I'm not sure how well this would hold up to the rigors of mountain biking, with all of the heavy vibrations and shocks that come through the bars, but its easily isolated enough for road riding, even the occasional dirt road I wander onto. Its just a little Optek camera pouch - when I bought the LX-5 I tried a few of the ones they had in the shop and this was the best fit. Couldn't even tell you the model number, but the LX-5 slips in it perfectly without being too tight. It fits in easily and comes out easily with a wrist strap. The evf wouldn't fit in this bag. And between the straps I use to hang it from the bars, and the little belt holder wrapping around the cable housing, the camera is pretty well isolated. Here are a couple of pics. Hope this helps, but I think a backpack may be the best solution for mtb, given how much shock the rider absorbs with his or her knees and elbows.

A quick update: We're absolutely loving the Canon S95 so-far. No matter how hard i try to take a bad picture, it always comes out nicely: We were christmas-tree shopping and our 2-year daughter was running around the trees in the store like crazy. It was toward the end of an overcast day and the trees brought a good amount of shade, yet I disabled the flash to use available light. I was chasing her and kept snapping pics as she was running around, I would often randomly place the camera near her face and snap. Many shots I got captured really funny expressions on her face as she smiles and looks around in wonder. I don't recall a single blurry shot. I'll try to get a few up on Flickr soon.
