Those on the East Coast and NE...

It looks like the storm will be tracking inland from us. This mean a pretty easy go with lots of rain. In case we loose power we have lots of food for cold meals, plenty of drinking water, batteries and the iPad is all charged up. The only thing left to do is to fill the bathtub with water and hunker down.

To everyone who has seen Irene or is about to?

Still hoping to hear from Antonio that all is AOK down in Puerto Rico.

Fingers crossed for all. I hate to make this sound dire. They say that as the hurricane gets up to the Delaware Bay with its cooler waters that they believe the hurricane will not be able to draw as much power.

I hope our members who are in the Irene vicinity will check in as they can. Stay safe everyone and please let us know how it goes for you and how you are.

Personally, right where we live in the NY metro area, north along the coast of Long Island just below Connecticut, we do not live close enough to the water to be hurt by over wash or storm surge...for us (my family) it will be ground water, storm sewers flooding, power outages and trees going down that have the possibility of coming into play. Now is when I wish I had a bigger garage! There are quite a few parts of our town that are at sea level and, even below... Westchester County, NY - Google Maps

No rain yet...which is good since my husband Don is cleaning out the gutters as I type...or is he taking down that giant American flag down at the end of the street?

How about those to the south, how are things where you are?

Grant, I've been thinking of you up there...as I watch the projected path. I'm glad you feel you'll be AOK - must go to gather my candles.. Now if I only had an iPad with its 10 hour battery!;)

My thoughts and prayers are with all those that could be affected.
If you can lease check in to let us know your stauts....

Hasn't started here yet, but both the radar and a look out my window indicates its about to. Shouldn't get truly crazy until tonight, but the washout starts soon...

Everyone of y'all on the East Coast, praying for your safety. And hopefully you won't lose power in the aftermath.

I was without electricity for about three weeks after Hurricane Ike. Weather was cool for a couple of days right after Ike. But then it returned to the usual Houston weather. It was a tough three weeks. It was specially tough when the neighbors across the fence got their power back within a week. Serious case of "power envy." :)

Hope all is well with you, and keep us updated. If anyone needs refuge down here in the 100+ degree weather, I'm just a PM away.

The rain and wind are kicking a little here in center city Philly. We managed to get about 100 people to the shelter on Ridge Ave. There was a young woman, tattered, dirty with a small child, maybe 3 years old. My friend and I took her to the Marriott. She has a room till Monday.
Broke my heart I tell ya.
Tonight will be bad as many refused to go to the shelter.
Second run starts around 11:00pm.
Be safe all....

Grant, … I'm glad you feel you'll be AOK …

We are feeling AOK but not flippant about the storm as we are preparing.

Last year we had a hurricane hit us head-on there was tons of rain and hellish winds and then for 20 minutes the eye was right over us then followed by more rain and winds. We took that 20 minutes to go out on our back deck and toasted the weather Aeolus, the god of winds and Zeus lord of the sky and god of the rain with Goslings Black Seal. I am not sure the impact that would have to the ecclesiastic thinking of that Ancient Greeks but we took our chances. The storm abated very shortly after our offering.

Today our neighbor is marring off their last daughter and they have a huge tent on their back acreage we are going over there shortly to celebrate and toast the bride, groom and the ancient gods of the element and hope the storm doesn’t interrupt the wedding.

Wish us luck.

Grant,I wish you all including the happy couple tons of luck and think that any form of supplication is always wise - especially the liquid offering type! I will remember to do that when the time is right.

Have fun at the wedding and I will drink a toast to you all up there, Grant!:drinks:

P.S. Don your good works are important and remind us all about those who don't have the wherewithal needed and depend on the help of others. Thank you.

Good on you Don. I saw some homeless being pulled out from underneath the AC boardwalk on the news this morning. Talk about the wrong place to ride this out...

Everyone be safe. NC is getting hammered and soon VA. I've been through one hurricane brush, one full on TS, and 5 days without power from a tornado outbreak. This stuff can be life threatening. Be safe.

I know...it was so weird, Brian. We were down in Frisco, NC...enjoying the sun and the surf when I got an email from a friend asking me if we'd felt the earthquake...then I went online and saw that both Virginia and Colorado had them...not that they were very big or anything.

Please no locusts!;)

I've just seen a video of whats happening at Ocean Drive, Newport.... the hurricane is miles away but the waves were horrendous, crashing over the sea wall.... I do wish my friend would not take chances and would get the heck out of there. I'm sure they can't be any safer there than people in NYC :( She posted the vid on facebook rather than youtube or vimeo, so I can't share it here :(

From us Aussies, who certainly are no strangers to the more "expressive" and "passionate" side of Nature, please take care folks. We're thinking of you and will keep the site warm while a few of you might be at a lose for power and connectivity for some time.

Please let us know when you've weathered the storm and are back-up and all good!
