Two really nice close-ups, Nuskyn - but my heart belongs to the Dung Beetle. There's something extra special about the light as its reflecting off of his (or her) body and all those tiny grains of sand.

this little fellow and I took our ease in the sun side-by-side ... well quite a big fellow actually, nearly 4" long I would think ...

Paul,

That guy is a Fox Moth larva, in it's third instar, one more skin moult and it will have yellow bands between the segments, then it will hibernate for the winter, emerge in the spring, sun itself but not feed and then pupate, a few weeks later and an adult Fox Moth should appear.

thank you Barrie .. I have often seen very large similar-looking caterpillars when I am in Cornwall in Spring and Autumn, and it's good at last to have at least one identified!

and it's very nice to hear from you again on the forum, your absence was not overlooked
