We had our first cover of frost on the grass this morning and so I am thinking about winter.

I have been going back to some of my LX3 images from past seasons playing around with Nik Color Efex and Silver Efex. I used SFX on the following image, bumping up the structure and using Cyanotype treatment. Anything else I should try?

What are your favorite winter PP recipes?

Used to love both SEP and CEP, but both seem to have died on my CPU. But their demise finds me leaning on LR more and I've really been enjoying the use of split-toning and toying with the HSL colour. Very powerful and nice results, though you can sometimes get heavy-handed and it will affect the image quality. Also been creating and using presets (my own and others). These can be quite effective and there's more and more out there to use. Bottom-line is that as I've come to rely on LR more, the better I am finding it.

Meanwhile, krugorg, I have to say that's one stunning image. Lots of talk about tonal range and your image covers the range nicely. Great subject matter and composed superbly. Thanks so much for sharing...

....now to get me out for some summer shots.....been too cold here of late!

Thanks for the comments!

It does seem that you can do everything manually in LR, and there are some nice free LR presets out there.

I think I am just getting spoiled with Nik, they make it too easy, especially with Color 4 and the stacking filters. Cool stuff.

Kyle,

I don't have any particular winter recipes, but have used the blue tones in Silver Efex Pro...always tweaking in Lightroom afterwards.

I can't remember where it is that you're from - you don't have it in your profile info...but that is a beautiful winter scene! For a minute I thought you were referring to that as "frost" and I wondered.;)

:D I am in Minnesota, so we aren't quite to that frost level yet! Just updated the profile with location, thanks for pointing that out. I should probably get the other stuff filled in as well.

The photo was taken along the North Shore of Lake Superior.... some cool scenery if you trek a bit up the rivers that feed the lake.

Thanks Kyle - I was up that way...well the Wisconsin side many years ago, but not in the winter. I will have to plumb the depths of your Flickr stream to see more beautiful pictures...and look forward to seeing this year's from you, too.:drinks:
