Leica Leica X1 Image Thread

I'm also not a natural with 35mm but the X1 takes such superb images.
Here's a family by the sea taken last month. I just loved the kid's air of confidence

Hollywood FL

You're so right about that little boy's look! I can see a Harley in his future.:D

Nice catch and love those colors and that beautiful Floridian sand, nippa!

Mine is largely unused now that I've seen its skin peel although encased in a Leica ERC.
I suppose I should send it back to Leica but I object to paying for something that shouldn't have happened.
The images are great but after the Fuji X100 why would you buy an X1 given the reports of ill-fitting battery doors , failing flash mechanisms and peeling skin?

This taken about 2 miles from home looking towards Manchester with the Jodrell Bank Radio Telescope just to the left of the walker.

That's a bummer for quality control. But great photo nonetheless!

Is your X1 the grey one or black one? Is the skin peeling off on both cameras? I was thinking of getting a X1 for my dad ...

My copy was one of the first - a grey one.

I've always been aware of the build problems as it was clear from the start that the battery door was flimsy and that the flash mechanism operating like a retractable pen seemed less than robust.
For those reasons I've always used the X1 inside the Leica Grey Leather Case so no rough handling.

I shall trade it in for the Fuji X200 :)

I never experienced any of the "known" build issues with my X1 (bought in April 2010 so it's maybe from one of the earlier batches). And I took it with me to Asia (hot, humid), to the slopes and to other parts of the world. I treated it with appropriate care but never babied it and carried it a lot just in a belt pouch or in a jacket pocket.

This thread prompted me into action so I contacted Leica to see what could be done about my peeling skin.
I had forgotten that there is a 2 year warranty on the camera so it's going back to Solms at Leica's expense.
That seems fair enough :)

Here's a bunch of my x1 images.
all what you are saying here is true. it's a hell of a camera, but it's having its quirks. for me, the flash started behaving strange, popping up at any moment, to the point where i could not push it back and have it stay in. mechanism probably broke. on such a high end camera, it's pretty surprising having that type of stuff happening. but i still love that small camera. despite the fact having an m9, i decided i wasn't going to sell it. it's such a different camera in many ways.

sparth, thank you for these. When I clicked on here and saw that first one, it took my breath away. You have an excellent view of the world around you and I think your color post processing is beautiful. I'm looking forward to making my way through your Flickrstream.:flowers_2:
