OK, apologies in advance - this is no doubt the dumbest post I've ever inflicted upon you all. Its just one of those little bits of wonderfulness that makes life better but nobody generally bothers to mention.

THIS LITTLE PIECE OF PLASTIC:

View attachment 44554

I got one of these little guys with my X100 and now I have two, one of them brand spankin' new and unscuffed. I just realized this now that I've decided that the X10 is a keeper and I've probably gone beyond the return window anyway, and so I fished around in the box to see if there was anything useful in there I hadn't grabbed yet. This little contraption was dreamt up by Fuji (or maybe they copied it) and it makes the putting on and taking off of camera straps that use the little metal rings SO MUCH EASIER than any other method I've ever tried. The sharp little wedge piece just fits right in between the two metal pieces of a typical key ring or camera strap ring and then you slide it in a bit and it separates the two sides so you can get a key on or get the ring onto a camera strap lug. No more busted fingernails, no more trying to wedge a penny or a dime in there. This little guy is da bomb!

I don't change camera straps that much, but sometimes I do, and this little 2 cent piece of plastic is the handiest little doo-dad I've ever found for the job. I like 'em so much I might have to drill a hole in one of them and then use the other one to get the first one onto my key ring, so it'll always be handy.

OK, I'm done. Sorry about that. But in case anyone didn't know what that little piece was for, now you do.

LOL! I didn't even know these little pieces of plastic came with the X100 and X10. I'll have to open the box and look for them when I go home. I was expecting to read some thread about awesome IQ, or the retro-styling, or innovative technology. I suppose this can be considered innovative! :)

Just one of those very very very small but slightly brilliant ideas that somebody came up with to solve a problem nobody ever really thinks much about, but is a PIA anyway...

Ray, you are too much but you are so right! I have terrible finger nails that easily break, so I usually have to hand this stuff off to my husband the carpenter. It's not that he has good nails - but he is handy. These little mini pry open thingies are great.:thiagree:

Never would I ever have guessed that this was what the thread was about!

Luke, why not try Fuji? Maybe they'll give you one?

Dear Fuji,
I just bought a used camera that you manufactured. Would you be interested in giving me one of those "mini pry open thingies"? Also, those ring-like things that connect to the camera body that I loop the strap through would also come in handy. And an printed out owners manual would also be cool (if that's not too much trouble).
your new biggest fan,
Luke

hey just curious what is this return window thing? you have mentioned a few times that you can return your camera if you dont like it. does it mean the shop will be selling that camera as used later, do you have to pay the shop for compensation? in australia, we cant generally exchange goods if we have a change of mind

I think Best Buy had a two week window. I don't believe they're sold as new, but are probably returned to the manufacturer and then maybe sold as refurbs. I returned a Sony A33 to a Sony store after 2-3 days once, exchanging it for a Nex, which I kept. I'm deinitely more comfortable buying a camera knowing that I could return it if it's really the wrong camera for me. I returned a lens once too.

Thanks, in here I think some shops have demo which you can use for 'testdriving' but it is not nearly as good to make a decision based on playing with a unfamiilar camera in such a short testing timeframe. :)
