Canon New Canon Serious Compact Apparently Coming

Personally I prefer the G7X for its true pocketability. Implementing an EVF was a no-brainer, but frankly can't see why a LX100-style EVF off to the side was not chosen. Don't see any significant difference in the image quality to the G7X from the samples - and there is no claim to an improved...

Ricoh Ricoh GR Underwater housing - Help Needed

Hi, FWIW I have three dicapac covers, the oldest over ten years old, the youngest about a year, and they are all working fine after being used in fresh and saltwater, on rocky streams and mangrove reefs. Frankly their simplicity is exactly why I trust them over some $2,000 housing where one...

Micro 4/3 My weather sealed combo

Good choice! I had an E-1 with a 14-54 SHG and it was a great combo that survived 1-2 hour sessions in winter rain at soccer games and saltwater splashes when taken fishing. I also just grabbed a discounted E-M5 with a 12-40 Pro combo for only $100 more than retail for the lens alone - thank...

My Olympus 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO Lens Review

Interesting - how do you overcome lack of IS - except with a tripod (or similar) and Nikon don't offer IBIS.

At rough guess I'd say camera shake. Shutter speed is 1/160 and even the guy standing still on the right looks slightly blurred. Do you have the IBIS ebaled? Cheers, Wolfie

    Micro 4/3 Olympus E-M5 II

The best thing about the MkII ... is that is has driven the Mk1 price down so much that today I got a brand new E-M5 Mk1 with a 12-40 Pro zoom for only $100 more than price of the zoom alone! I am very happy as I have wanted a WR outfit for a couple of years and finally have got it...

Featured: 'Nikon V3 and 70-300cx excels at Surf Photography' by The Smoking Camera

Hi Joe, Great shots and the Series 1 AW-1 is of great interest to me because I do a lot of photography of saltwater fly fishing. Any reason why you would not choose that over a V3 especially in a marine environment? My concern is controls on AW seem to because dumbed down compared to V3, but I...

Micro 4/3 Picked up my Olympus E-PL5 today

A good choice - and plenty of room for growth ... I've had my E-Pl5 for a few months now - alongside my E-P3. In every respect the better camera except a control wheel for shutter or apeture would be great. Focus is better than anything else I've used, including Pentax K7, esp in low light...

Doesn't stopping down like that rather defeat the extra expense of the fast lens? Do you have any wide open examples that demonstrate the problems of shooting wide open?

Micro 4/3 Panasonic LX100!!!! Money is flying from my credit card!

Micro 4/3 The official I don't want the LX100 thread

Bye bye prime, hello zoom Reckon the X30 is dead on arrival, as with the LX7. Interesting to see if Fuji probably still believe that their prime-lens APS compacts will hold up against the large sensor zoom compact category that is now emerging with the LX100 basically eclipsing the Canon...

Micro 4/3 Panasonic LX100!!!! Money is flying from my credit card!

I think most serious photographers who have chosen know that it will not give the same output as FF - while it hardly lags behind APS from samples I've seen. And APS is likely to die soon as neither C or N are seriously producing lenses for that imaging circle. People can rave about...

Micro 4/3 The official I don't want the LX100 thread

Just what was needed Going up-sensor and leap-frogging the 1" sensor level is a definite plus for the LX100. Staying with 1/1.7 would have been a yawn (like the Fuji X30), and going 1" is just playing the RX100 game - now we basically have a faster zoom lens than the prime-limited Nikon A/...

Canon First pictures of new Canon G1X mark 2

This is the camera to replace my G11 - like having a 12-60 Zuiko bolted onto an M43 body - best big sensor and lens combo on the market for a walk-around outdoors for my purposes. Pluses: Fast lens, extra-wide to portrait zoom, 5cm close focus, 5 fps ( haven't seen a buffer depth yet), decent...

Sony Sony Breaks New Ground with A7 / A7R Announcement

Not the all conquering camera Seems already Sony have jumped horses from Alpha DSLR to NEX to Alpha FF mirrorless, without once providing a decent lens line up. Unless you want to find the right adaptor or wait for them to provide an FF native lens. Wouldnt be holding my breath on that one -...

Sony New Sony images leaked -- all sides. RX10 has 2.8 CONSTANT aperture???

What most people seem to forget about 24- 36 MP sensors You'd better have a very good lens, accurate focus, good IS and/or decent tripod to actually get the extra resolution potential - otherwise you're wasting your money and fooling yourself. There is no free lunch for FF.

Sony Does NEX FF make anyone question the price of the current crop mirrorless?

There is no NEX FF ... Think you mean Sony Alpha series? Also keep in mind how many lens mount changes they've made ( four different Sony adaptors available currently). What lens system actually exists? Hopefully will force prices down - but will it actually get anyone to change...

    Micro 4/3 Ming Thein's review of Olympus OM-D E-M1

    Micro 4/3 Ming Thein's review of Olympus OM-D E-M1

If you read the about glass in the 12-40 lens seems to almost have a different type for each element! Ming noted that when he used it on his E-M5 he got moire, which I take means the lens maybe out-resolving that sensor. Of course the new Oly TruePic 7 has to programatically correct for moire...

    Micro 4/3 Ming Thein's review of Olympus OM-D E-M1

DP Review debacle Yeah, a definite faux-pas, especially when their comment was at variance with all the other early reviewers. I see the M43 Olympus crowd remembering this one for a long time ...

Micro 4/3 New OM-D to be released

You got it! But wait there's more Tick those three, and from Robin Wong's site he reports that the improved 5 axis stabilisation is good for sharp, hand held 1- 1.5 second exposures! Looks like this camera is going to stretch the boundaries for slow shooting and high ISO range as well.

    Micro 4/3 Ming Thein's review of Olympus OM-D E-M1

This is got to be the most serious compact of the year! And you just have to love Ming's water resistant testing photo! As a fishing, hiking, kayaking sort of guy this ticks all the boxes for a compact, go with me everywhere, system camera. Great one, Olympus!

    Anyone thinking about going-DSLR again?

Sure you want to get a D800? Plenty of problems with that model: dust, oil, lubricant issues as well as AF problems. I'd say you need to see what it is that the Fuji isn't delivering to your satisfaction - colour rendition, contrast, sharpness in the final images or is the camera itself, as...

What if you had a totally unlimited photography budget . . .

The camera I really want doesnt exist -so I would get one custom made... The ultimate serious compact would be a digital Fujifilm HD-M: Just need to toughen up a large sensor compact to be all weather/shallow submersible - my idea of the ultimate walk around in any weather camera...

Micro 4/3 Pro level Ol - Video leaked: NEW OM-DM-E1

Don't understand the "big" issue ... :026: If you actually look at the images the only significantly bigger component of the new design is the grip - the body dimensions seem virtually identical otherwise to the E-M5. This is obviously aimed at serious/pro users and bigger legacy glass...

Micro 4/3 Pro level Ol - Video leaked: NEW OM-DM-E1

Thinking on Huff's puff... Definitely a change from the very OM style of the E-M5, but then as Steve says, it is the body has basically same depth except for the grip- which presumably will house a bigger battery for more shots. Has nice big VF - bigger than most DSLRs - all the better to...

Got him good this time! This fantail has been visiting our yard for a few months now - usually in the evening in the worst possible lighting. Yesterday the little guy did a daytime visit and I shot off nearly 200 frames over 15 mins and finally got some in focus, close range ( approx 1.5m)...

Micro 4/3 First Images of New Panasonic GX7

Tilt EVF = pain in the neck! I don't undertsand what people see in it! Of course this has been available ever since VF2 for the PEN series - just externally. I have had my tilting EVF (the VF3) on my E-P3 for 2 years and the tilt feature is frankly of no value. You have to crane...

News Canon EOS 70D has vastly improved on-chip PDAF

This could be big ... ... because it could mean that DSLR phase detect lenses could work with fast AF onto a mirror-less body. This is big because there is less need, or no need, to develop a separate range of CDAF lenses. Slap on an full electronic adapter and you can use the same glass...
