    Fuji Showcase XC 50-230 Samples

I also picked this lens up cheapy cheapy for $180 AUD new. I hesitated on the 55-200, not so much on price alone, more because I don't tend to use long lenses much at all, so I couldn't see personal value in it. Now that I've used the 50-230 on my X-Pro1, and knowing when I'd be more inclined to...

    Ricoh Sharp

My wife often comments on how fantastically sharp and detailed my images are. She relates to the time and effort I put into editing, and states that it's a great use of my time and money. She mentions how great the colour and contrast of my Zeiss lenses are, and the wonderful atmosphere and...

Nikon Showcase A day on the beach

Thanks. I thought that also as an afterthought. I have an X-Pro1 and X100s. I actually had the X100s with me, though never used it once. As almost everyone does, I find the Fuji excels at colours, though I find Nikon does very well at replicating natural colours. The water really was like that...

Nikon Showcase A day on the beach

The AW1 ended up performing admirably on our cruise. It basically lived with me in the water, never more than 2m deep though. I did re-grease the lens O-ring before the first use & checked it after each day in the water. No issues. It did get dropped a few of times. Once on a hard floor...

This is my workflow. What is yours?

After a day or two taking photos of family events with my A7r, my workflow begins with a trip to a local tech store to buy some additional hard drive storage. Just kidding though, I wouldn't use that camera in those situations. Thanks for sharing yours!

Nikon Showcase A day on the beach

Yeah, the camels on the beach seemed wrong for so many reasons. I think I liked all the strange contrasts. Particularly all the tourists looking at their phones instead of enjoying the scenery and their camel ride. Interestingly perhaps, Australia has a huge wild population of them and cull...

Nikon Showcase A day on the beach

I recently picked up a Nikon AW1 for a South Pacific cruise coming up in a few weeks. It's first outing was to Stockton Beach on Boxing Day. It was overcast on the day, though very warm! I didn't get the opportunity to get it wet, though that will surely come during my cruise. Camels on...

The Official For God's Sake Stop Talking About Cameras And Post Photographs Instead Thread

LOL. You made me double check what I had. I won't go into my Canon FD 50's or Pentax 50's just yet. I guess those 2 50mm's are a double up of sorts, even though they are technically different models. It seems now that I have resolved my addition to buying new cameras, it has transferred to...

Feedback Brainstorming a new name for the site

+1 for Serious Cameras or leaving as is. CircleofConfusion and DynamicRangers also sound great. I don't think having to have a .com is such a big deal these days, and there's no reason not to keep the current domain name at the same time.

I took these images on the weekend to try a couple of inexpensive legacy lenses at night, namely a Minolta MD 50mm f2.0 which was about $35, and a Sigma Mini Wide II 28mm I picked up for comparatively less of a bargain price of $85, albeit it is in absolutely minty condition. I was pleasantly...

Sony First stroll with the A7S

I'm so hoping it's going to be nice. A couple of quick shots indicate it's punching well above it's $50 price tag. I borrowed a 28-70 kit, and found the sharpness at least was quite OK @28mm f8-11, particularly when passed through DxO!

Sony First stroll with the A7S

Beautiful example of it's capabilities. I'm envious of the lens, and until I pick up the Zeiss 35mm 2.8, I'll be sticking with a couple of my legacy lenses (Rokkor 50mm 1.4 & Minolta MD 28mm 2.8) while learning my way around my new A7r.

Is there a 12 step program for camera addicts?

Understandable, there should have been more lenses. I didn't include my legacy lenses however, and thankfully this collection is now reducing generally, except for a recent addition of a Sony A7r.

    DxO v Camera JPG Sample

Thanks! I have tried some of the simulations. I actually have a X-Pro1 and X100s. The DxO simulations, while not exactly the same really do capture the essence pretty well. I think Astia in particular may be a little nicer than on my X-Pro. I'm sure I'll use them at times.

    DxO v Camera JPG Sample

My first impression was also the tones were too warm as well. I think in reality the actual warmth of the light was somewhere in between. It was the last few minutes of daylight, and sunsets have been quite orange lately. If it were an image I was going to spend any time on I may opt for using...

That doesn't instill one with confidence. Luckily I've had no issues with the camera. The only issue with my X100s is that I've never had a working battery charger. I've had it replaced 3 times, and it's going back again as soon as I could be bothered. I've been using a cheap third party charger...
