Resort Town To Charge Commercial Photographers!

I guess they don't get the term "Free advertising" and "Any publicity is good publicity". Would be interesting if they had to pay for all the ads to be run instead of getting it for free. So- all photographers quit publishing photos of the area, tourism drops, income to the locals drops...

    Which Operating System

DOS 7.1 (win98/Bootgui=0) for real work, Windows 7 and XP for hobby. Getting DOS to run on a 512GByte SATA drive using FAT-32 was a trick. PharLap extenders gives DOS access to a full 4GBytes of physical memory. DOS screams on a 2.2GHz Core 2. No need to upgrade past that. Panasonic CF-52 has...

    Some advice and counsel needed

The 17/2.8 cost less- could pick it up for ~$100 used. It is also smaller, makes for an easier everyday carry-around. Mine just about lives on an EPL2.

    Some advice and counsel needed

The EM5 is going in the $300 range from camera shops, sold used in mint- condition- as per quick Ebay check. My advice- get the 17/2.8 for it and carry it around as your point and shoot camera, don't worry about the value.

    Mind game: mission-critical camera

A Nikonos III. If going with a camera requiring batteries- digital or film, get one that allows use of an external battery that can be held under your arctic coat. The Nikon F2 had such a battery pack for the meter and servo-unit.

Sony Looking for images shot with A7r2, great 50mm's like Voigtlander

The lenses listed are made for SLR's, which means large Flange distances. This was done to clear an SLR mirror. The light comes out of the lens at much more perpendicular to the sensor as compared with an RF lens: should be fine with the standard filter that Sony uses. M Monochrom with Canon...

Sony Looking for images shot with A7r2, great 50mm's like Voigtlander

You can find adapters for most of the manual focus SLR lenses for Sony- they are inexpensive. Konica AR Mount, Minolta MD Mount, Canon FD mount, Pentax M42 mount are the "dead mounts", high-quality lenses that sell for very low ($20~$50) prices.

Sony Looking for images shot with A7r2, great 50mm's like Voigtlander

I have- Voigtlander/Cosina makes some great lenses- well worth looking into. There are some super-bargains out there for lenses. The Konica 50/1.7 AR-Mount manual focus lens cost all of $30. I modified it for my Leica, made an RF cam for it. You will have an easier time adapting! Spring 2016...

Sony Looking for images shot with A7r2, great 50mm's like Voigtlander

I have a lot of 50mm lenses for the RF's and SLR's (as in > 100). If you are going to use RF lenses on an A7R2- you should send it in for the sensor modification done by companies such as Kolari. RF lenses are designed for cameras with a short Flange distance- they are close to the sensor. The...

    MP3 is no longer supported??

You have baseline JPEG and some 28 versions of JPEG, including some versions that used 12-bits per element- but it has been a VERY long time since I read the standard. Most were proprietary, required a fee. That's one reason we were stuck with 8-bits/pixel long after cameras exceeded that limit...

    Okay, now I'm properly insulted . . .

Their algorithm seems to be based on too many random factors, rather than a cohesive method for rating images as a viewer would judge them. So it comes down to an algorithm that people like to throw stuff at, rather than use for its intended purpose. The developers have a lot of work to do if...

Two really neat bits of camera writing
