I was playing a bit with Color Efex and used it on some casual shots. I was surprised how much detail can be extracted. Then I went over the top by applying a filter effect. Although I am intrigued by the result I am not sure if I like it or hate it. What do you think?

;) I deleted #2 but kept this one. This one looks sufficiently surreal. It was gratifying to play a bit with the filters in Color Efex. I also tried a more conservative filter setting which really helped the photo look more natural while showing the details in the sky (except for the blown area of course).

The "custom filter" setting is pretty neat. I haven't used filters in a long time but it helps remember what filters can and cannot do. I realized that, when applied by an artist on the right photo, a work of art can be produced! Too bad I am not an artist. ;-) I am afraid I have to stick to ND filters (which I will buy shortly) and polarization filters.
