. . . from 1955, that is. Fuji's first camera, the Fujica Six, was a 6×6 folding viewfinder camera released in 1948. There were six acknowledged models. The line culminated in 1955 with the Fujica Super-6, a 6x6 coupled rangefinder. This camera is light and compact, and my copy is very clean and in excellent shape. My guess is it was stored in a climate controlled environment. It has a Fujinar 7.5cm f/3.5 lens, which produces excellent results if the photog does their part.

For those not versed in film, the 6x6 refers to the 6cm x 6cm film plane, as opposed to the usual 24mm x 36mm of standard 135 film. One only gets 10 - 16 frames per roll on a medium format film camera, but the color depth and detail are incredible. I started shooting film again a couple of years or so ago, and I really enjoy it.

    Gosh-good-golly that's a purty camera.

Like a vintage automobile, it looks amazing just standing still.

The results from my first roll from the Fujica are back, and they exceeded my hopes. Fuji glass is/was excellent, even back in 1955. I used Ilford HP5 Plus 400 for my first roll, and the film delivered. I also did a couple of family portraits that I'm not sharing here, and I'm more than pleased. I'll be running more rolls through this great old camera.

I always sorta wanted a camera like that for trips, where I'd find 10-12 things that were worth the film, and have that film record of the key points in a drawer for many years hence.

There's an even older Fujica 6x6 camera on Etsy right now for $95. ;) Earlier version of mine, and I think it's a scale focus model.

Thanks Steve. Yeah, that GF670 is something, but a bit out of the range of my wallet. :)

I have reluctantly decided to retire the Fujica 6 to a place of honor on my display shelf. The spring on the shutter button was weak, which the seller had disclosed, but the metal tab triggering the shutter broke from metal fatigue not long after I got the camera. The only way to trip the shutter now is to stick my finger in and push on the remainder of the shutter arm. It works, but it's a bit of a pain. However, the shutter has started sticking, and I've been spectacularly unsuccessful at finding someone willing and able to repair the shutter. Pity, really, as that Fujinar lens has produced the best IQ of any camera I've ever had.

All is not lost in filmland, as I picked up this beauty just an hour ago. Near mint condition, and much smaller and lighter than my first 645 film camera. I'm hoping its lens is just as good as that of its older brethren. The weather here today is marvelous, and I just happened to take the day off from work. Tally ho! :D

Yeah, I've sort of been eying them for a while. Decided to take the plunge. Hope my camera lust was justified.

Here are a few from the first roll. Kodak Portra 400. I also had my X-T1 & 23mm WR with me, and posted similar frames from that combo in the Landscape and Color Photo threads.
