I just traded my 14 straight-up for an 18-55

Even though the 14 goes for over a hundred bucks more used, I just ... want the 18-55 a LOT more than I do the 14. Traded with the friend who just bought the XE2, and he's been borrowing (and loving) the 14 for a week. So far he doesn't think the width is a problem, though I warned him. Says if he misses it, he'll get a new 18-55 or some longer prime.

I am really excited. I know the 18-55 well, and I constantly wish I had it.

It will suit you. I think of it as two primes - 18 and 55 - rather than a zoom.

the 18-55 is awesome...and for me 18 is generally as wide as I need. I'd have done the trade as well.

I took it out yesterday, and reaffirmed the decision completely. It's such a damned good lens. Shots are crisp, colors are good, and it was so flexible. And oh, how I've missed OIS.

They are two great lenses and I'm fortunate to have both.

I used the 18-55 almost exclusively this weekend in NYC, only pulling out the 35 a few times at night. For the most part, it was fantastic. I did actually miss the width of the 14 a few times, in cramped quarters. 18 is close, but sometimes a 10mm would've been nice. ...sigh

I sold my original 18-55 that came with my X-E1 but having just re bought the same kit I'm looking forward to using it this time round.
