I have attended the annual Japanese Summer festival held in the Melbourne Docklands with my local Meet Up group. It was a lot of fun, There was a lot of girls dressed in a Yukata (a kimono worn in summer), there were also cosplayers with costumes ranging from the mild to the wild across all ages, some fully grown adults and some little kids cute as a button.

One of the popular events was the Odori, which is a traditional Japanese dance where the crowd was encouraged to participate, and the crowd did not disappoint as there were a lot of people who joined in.

One thing I wasn't too happy about was the sunburn. The festival started at noon and lasted until late in the afternoon, I was under the direct sunlight all day and ended up having really bad sunburn on my face, arms, and on the back of my neck which is now sore and tender and has left me looking dark brown.

Here are some of my images

Great contrast and detail; number 3 and 4 are my favorites. What PP process do you use, and do the foreground subjects stand out a lot primarily due to the natural bokeh of the lens or because of burning/etc in PP? Very well done.

Thank you, I generally pp my images using Silver Efex Pro through LR4, I used a slightly modified version of the presets I have purchased from Street Presets, If you are using LR4 and / or Silver Efex Pro it's definitely worth look, I bought the Silver Efex Pro preset bundle for less than what I would pay for my morning coffee for a week, its such a good deal.

From there I tweaked it a bit to suit my liking and saved it as a new preset, as for the foreground it's a bit of both. I didn't bring an ND filter and I wanted to shoot at 1.4 for subject isolation, I was maxed out at ISO 200, 1/4000 sec because it was midday, my images ended up having the foreground subjects standing out but the entire image slightly over exposed (roughly +3EV), I reduced the exposure in LR4 then applied the presets in Silver Efex, and these are the end result :victorious:

Great, thanks a lot for going into detail. I use Silver Efex Pro via Aperture; have only just started using LR4, and need to get the Nix plug-ins working as well. Regardless, well done, I really like the final look of your photos.
