A quick question regarding the use of filters on an X100.
I've found information regarding the use of a step-up down ring to a step-up ring with a 49mm filter on the end. Seems a bit convoluted. Just wondering if it's reasonable and safe to have just one filter 49mm filter attached directly to the lens?
    Thanks for the help.

This could harm your lens. It moves a little to tje front when focussing. Best but nit cheapest way is to buy the intermediate ring and screw the filter on the ring.

Oh, that's the reason for the double step rings and then filter. I don't have the camera yet so that's valuable info. Thank you.

Yes the camera wont focus with a filter directly attached. The lens will hit the filter when focusing.
