I went out yesterday to Staten Island with members of our church to do volunteer work for restoration and clean-up of areas damaged by Hurricane Sandy. There were hundreds of volunteers, but broken up into smaller groups throughout the area. Our particular group worked on repainting the Staten Island Little League facilities. I didn't have much time to shoot given I was working and acting as a team lead for our work crew, but I did bring the X100S and managed to grab a few shots.

Here's some of the members of our "life group" (small study/discussion group) first thing in the AM hitting the ground for the outreach project:

We painted the entire complex the same shade of bright blue - 28 gallons worth! I think if I never see that color blue again it'll be too soon :D

As you can see from a shot during our lunch break, blue paint got everywhere

Lots to repaint - most of this was underwater when the area flooded at it's highest point with the rain and storm surge.

Hard not to make use of the colors with the bright red and blue but I really like the B&Ws I get out of the X100S too

It was a fun day, and we got a lot done. The kids start their season opening in 2 weeks so this is a big step for them in being able to get back to "normal" since their last season was cut short by Sandy. The story was also covered by the local news which was kind of neat to see the other side of what we were there for, seeing kids having fun and excited to play again

The X100S was a good choice for the day... no lenses to worry about, small enough to fit in a jacket pocket, viewfinder for dealing with bright sun, and the built-in ND filter so I could shoot wide open if I wanted to even in the noonday sun. I am still in the learning phase of getting used to the OVF and general use of the camera though. I found later I missed focus a little bit on some of these, which I suspect is more due to my technique than the camera itself. Hopefully as I get more comfortable with the camera that'll improve my hit rate.

Great work you and your church are doing. Wonderful color rendition, especially the blues and reds.
