Can anyone tell me why pushing in the thumbwheel doesn't magnify the image in AF modes? It sure is nice to confirm focus and it works that way on the X100s. Am I missing something?

It'll magnify the image in manual focus modes, but not AF modes. Would be nice to do it in the AF modes, but a quick flip of the AF mode dial to MF isn't a huge deal and can be done quickly, but it doesn't help if you're actually trying to just confirm the autofocus itself.

Thanks Jman. It just seems weird that the X100s it works in both AF and MF modes....and now I've gotten used to it.

as far as that button goes itself, i preffer the scrolly wheel of the x-e1 than the springy left-right action of the x100s. i also like the main nav pad of the x-e1 than the scrolly wheel of the x100s.

You could leave it in manual focus mode and set AF to the the exposure lock button. AF on with the button and view magnification with thumb wheel. That's what I do.
