I worked for 7 years on cruise ships as a photog in the 90's, on one ship the neg count was always low so I had to photograph the lifeboat drill. Not an easy shoot, the reflective strips on the life jackets were a right pain with direct flash!
Dave, when I worked in the Merchant Navy, the weekly lifeboat drills were known as "Board of Trade Sports". Note the civilised cups of tea and coffee.

A most gentile emergency drill.
Complete contrast from my first Carnival Cruise; some folks showed up with a drink in each hand but sans the vest from their stateroom. When inquired by the supervising crew, one passenger exclaimed "If we're really sinking, I need the drink more!"
