I have been enlisted to shoot a conference-type event, also including small groups, which will be under artificial (not fluorescent) light, and no flash. Will the X30 work for this?

I have only used mine for outdoor photography, with a max. ISO of 800. I will probably need a minimum SS of 1/150, or even 1/180, so can I boost the ISO to 1600, or even 3200, without getting lots of noise?

I'm not sure it's the best venue for a X30. I've used mine up to ISO 1600, and the noise was acceptable. I kept the aperture wide open for some recent indoor pics of our granddaughter. I got a few nice ones, but had to bin about 2/3 of what I shot.

Thanks, Tony -- this is about what I expected. To get any kind of decent DOF I would have to stop down to 5.6 at the minimum, and therefore the available light will diminish greatly.

The lenses I have for my X-T1 and X-T2 will not be useful for general photography at the event. The 16 is too wide, and the 56 too narrow except for some individual shots. I am considering the 23/1.4 , in hopes that it will also be useful for other venues such as nature and landscapes. I am definitely not a street shooter!

Perhaps rent the 16-55? I'm considering doing that for an upcoming trip.

Good thought! Will have to look into it, and its specs.

What Tony suggests. For what it’s worth . . I did event photography for a magazine for several years shooting Canon and a 24-105L and used flash. I found the zoom capability extremely useful for framing in crowded venues (where you don’t have the luxury of your own space and distance for framing) and found the vast majority of my shots were in the 40mm range.

Thanks for the info. I will go with the 23/1.4 with X-T2 and 56/1.2 with X-T1 set at auto ISO (range 200-6400) and reasonable minimum SS based upon the lens. I cannot use flash, but I never do so it is not an option anyway.

There will not be more than 25 or so folks attending, and the space is large enough for me to move around. It is more like a workshop than a large event.
